Obituary of Barbara D. Meckley

Barbara D. Meckley, 84, of State College, died Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Hearthside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born March 16, 1932, in Pine Grove Mills, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Winifred Henry Dodd. On April 18, 1952, in Winchester, VA, she married Kenneth C. Meckley, who survives. Also surviving is a brother, Ivan Dodd of Jersey Shore and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Wiker and a brother, Wilbur "Sonny" Dodd. Barbara attended Pine Grove Mills School from first grade through ninth grade and then graduated from State College High School in 1950. She was a bookkeeper for Penn State University from 1952 through 1985, starting at Old Main and then Shield's, retiring as Supervisor. Barbara was a member of the Pine Grove Presbyterian Church where she previously served as Deacon and an Elder. She was also a member of the Pine Grove Mills Community in Action. She loved to swim and was an avid PSU sports and athletics fan for 84 years. Visitation will be from 10 until 10:30 a.m., on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Reverend Carl Campbell officiating. Private burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 241, Pine Grove Mills, PA 16868.
