Obituary of William R. Smith

William R. Smith 84, a resident of State College, died at home on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, following a 13 year battle with dementia. Born July 9, 1933 in Marion Center, Indiana County, he was the son of the late Rowland M. And Cora Rogers Smith. On June 2, 1957 in Marion Center he married the former Ruth L. Keslar who survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Clara Smith Campbell of Toledo, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank L. Smith and two sisters, Ina Smith Getty and Margaret Smith Yeager. William was a graduate of Marion Center High School in 1952 and then worked on his father's dairy farm from 1952 until 1967. He worked at Corning Glass in State College as a cold finish operator from 1968 until his retirement in 1998. William was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in State College. He enjoyed tending to his yard and flowers. William's family would like to thank Penn State Hershey Medicine, especially Dr. Jonathan Adams, Jena Duck and her staff at Home Watch Care Givers and Home Nursing Agency for the care he received during his final days. Friends will be received from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm, on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the funeral home, with Pastor Becky McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that Memorial contributions may be made to Home Nursing Agency, 201 Chestnut Ave, Altoona, PA 16601.
