Obituary of Avis Earle Maes

Avis E. Maes, 91, of State College, died Friday, May 5, 2017 at Anthony House at Foxdale Village. She was born July 24, 1925 in Sumrall, Mississippi. On April 17, 1943, she married Laurence A. Maes, who died on November 6, 2009. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Aguilera, Dr. Judy Zarit, and Connie Maes; and one son, Bruce Maes. She was proud of her eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She moved to State College in 2006, and because of her friendly nature, made many friends, first at Cobble Creek, and then throughout the community where she enjoyed playing card games. She will be missed at her regular canasta, Rummikub, and Samba games, as well as at the Centre Region Active Adult Center in the Nittany Mall. There will be a memorial for the family in California at a future date. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Centre Region Active Adult Center, 2901 E.
