Obituary of Raymond M. Binkley

Raymond Matthews Binkley, 94, of Lemont, PA, died Monday, March 11, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Raymond was born October 28, 1929, in Bloomington, IN. He was the son of the late Rev. William A. and Mary Duley Binkley of Berea, KY. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara Ann Binkley. They met when Barbara took a summer course at Penn State where Raymond attended university. They were married June 19, 1955.

He is survived by two children, Rex A. Binkley of Lemont, PA and Kandace S. Binkley of Edgewater, MD; two grandchildren, Kaleigh Z. and Keagan J. Binkley of Edgewater, MD. He was preceded in death by two sisters Betty Binkley Wray and Joanna Binkley Snyder and a brother, William A. Binkley.

Raymond graduated from Rochester High School, Rochester PA where he was active on the yearbook and newspaper staff. He joined the Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, FL where he did his flight training in a SNJ Texan aircraft. He sailed on the USS Wasp aircraft carrier in the waters off of Cuba. He received a bachelor's degree in Dairy Management from the Pennsylvania State University in 1955. While attending Penn State he was on the Penn State men's gymnastics team and was proud to be in the team picture hanging in Rec Hall. He was a Penn State Cheerleader and a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

After college he worked for Breyers, Country Club, and HP Hood Ice Cream, Clearfield Cheese, Friendly's, Farm Stores, and Coble Dairy. He was a manager of the Dunkley's Dairy in Bermuda and the Penn State Creamery. He was an international dairy management consultant. He liked to keep busy and worked part time into his 80's at Weis Market and Wegmans.

Raymond was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He devoted his life to his family, friends, and church. Raymond loved fishing, weightlifting, cars, traveling, and family vacations in Maine. He always had a camera close by to snap pictures of deer in the backyard, picturesque skies etc. He loved to tell you about his travels and would talk for hours if given a chance. Throughout his life people commented that he was always wearing a smile.

Raymond was an active church member throughout his life and a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in State College, PA.
