Safe Gathering Options in a Time of Social Distancing
Why Gathering Is Important.
We are very sorry for your loss. We’re also sorry because the current pandemic health recommendations mean you can’t gather with large groups of people as you remember your loved one. Even so, you still have choices - choices that provide you with support and help as you begin your grieving journey in a healthy way.
When you lose someone, all the LOVE you felt for that person does not end with their death. It continues on in you. Since grief is the natural reaction to loss, some of the LOVE now feels like grief. You are full of LOVE and grief and you need something constructive to do with it. LOVE can’t wait.
If it weren’t for the pandemic, you would be getting visits from family and friends. You would be planning a public funeral or memorial service. You would be getting hugs and warm embraces. You would also be honoring your loved one who died. You would be sharing their life stories, hearing how they touched others’ lives and fulfilling their final wishes. You would be giving and receiving LOVE. All of these actions would help you begin to heal.
Because of the pandemic, you might be considering putting all of these actions on hold until our society returns to some sense of normalcy. The reality is some of these actions must remain on hold, but the other reality is LOVE can’t wait.
Fortunately, we have options that enable you to meet the health requirements while also enabling your LOVE and that of those around you to do what it needs to do – grieve, connect, share and honor. And if someone asks you why you’re doing something now instead of waiting for a public, in-person gathering in the future, you can reply, “Because LOVE can’t wait!”
We are here to help you give and receive LOVE and heal!
“There is not a one-size-fits-all approach to planning the funeral of a loved one in ordinary times, and there shouldn’t be a one-size-fits-all approach to it in this time, either. Give yourself permission to make the decision that is best for you and your family.”
