A Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Garden

Koch Funeral Home is happy to be partnering with Footprints in the Field to help create a meaningful Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Garden on the beautiful grounds of the Calvary Harvest Fields church off of Rt. 322 in Boalsburg. This garden is being dedicated to families and individuals who have experienced pregnancy and early infant loss.

Losing a baby affects many generations of families. The need to provide validation that these babies existed, they mattered, and are not forgotten is strong – as is the need to heal. Spearheaded by Cathy Holsing and inspired by her grandson, Josiah Emmanuel, who lived for one and one-half hours, Footprints in the Field will be a place for generations of families to reflect, mourn and heal, regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs. Situated near two ponds and landscaped with natural flora, the Garden will be full of river rocks which visitors can have inscribed to honor a lost baby and then placed in the Garden or taken home.

Their Story

The dream for a Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Garden, grew from one baby’s death soon after his birth. His name was Josiah Holsing, and his loss opened his family’s eyes to the community of families all around them who have experienced the same kind of sorrow.

Calvary Harvest Fields generously donated land for the garden, which is located on a portion of their grounds in Boalsburg. This space, which is located near two ponds and overlooks fields and mountains, is a peaceful place where people can spend time remembering and honoring their child.

A small team of community members came together to develop a vision to have the area landscaped with a variety of plants and trees, a gazebo and benches, and a rock garden.

Grieving families will be encouraged to select one of the rocks to have engraved with the child’s name or other wording of their choice. If they wish, they can choose to leave the rocks in the garden to create a special place for reflection and remembrance for all who visit.

The garden will be a welcoming place for any grieving family member regardless of the circumstances surrounding the loss of their child, or their religious world view.
