Obituary of Warren K. Stewart Jr.

Warren K. Stewart Jr, 83, of State College, died Monday, July 20, 2015, at Juniper Village at Brookline. Born August 8, 1931 in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Warren K. and Edna Steel Stewart. He married Mary Lutton June 23, 1985 who survives at home. He is survived by five children, Elaine C. Lang, of State College, Sondra A. Pope, of Wilmington, NC, Craig R. Stewart, of Wilmington, DE, Jeffrey A. Lutton and his wife, Sandy, of McLean, VA, Jon A. Lutton and his wife, Mindy, of Catonsville, MD, ten grandchildren, Jennifer Hampton, Jessica Lang, Carson, Kevin and Nelson Pope, Jack,twins Lilly and Luke ,Lindsey and Johnny Lutton. Warren was particularly happy to have his great grandson, Kyper Hampton, son of David and Jennifer Hampton. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Charles R. Kyper and Granddaughter Gillian Elizabeth Lutton . Warren was educated in Huntingdon public schools graduating in 1949 and had a BBS from New Hampshire College. He enlisted in the US Air Force following high school and then was trained as a Radar Technician and served at Radar Stations located in Ohio and Alaska. He later was accepted into the Aviation Cadet Program and was commissioned in 1953 as a 2nd Lt. He was later trained as a navigator and then as an Electronic Warfare Officer flying in these positions in various aircrafts until being selected for pilot training. As a pilot starting in 1958 he flew KC 97 and KC 135 air refueling aircraft until his retirement in 1969. He served in the Strategic Air Command and flew many missions in the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 to 1969 when he retired. Decorations included the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Combat Readiness Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expedition Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with bronze star, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon. He retired with the rank of Major. After retirement from the Air Force he was Controller at Unipar, Inc in State College until 1985 then as Controller of Four-O-One Management Corporation of State College until his retirement in November 2001. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home with Celebrant, Jackie Hook officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
