It was my privilege to work for and with Charlie Ness for a number of years in the University Libraries and to be a member of the State College Lit Club with him. He was always unfailingly kind and generous to me, and had a wonderful sense of humor. His reminiscences of working at the Free Library, the State Library, and at Penn State under Carl Jackson as Dean of Libraries were full of great characters and great stories. His Lit Club presentations often featured stories of his time in the military and at his various library posts. I know his work with library services for the visually handicapped were extraordinarily important and the honors he received for these efforts were well deserved. I wish I could have been at the viewing and funeral to convey my condolences in person, but we were away on vacation and I didn't learn of his passing until our return. Please accept our sympathy and best wishes; his friendship and good works were much appreciated by his colleagues and all who enjoyed his presence among us.
