So sorry to hear of Lloyd's passing! He was a classmate at St. Mary's grade school and Shanley High school. He was a kind friend with a gentle smile! We always knew that he would go on to do many great things! I feel privileged to have received a response from him after I sent a birthday message.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Mary Ellen

Lloyd and I attended elementary and high school together in Fargo, ND. Memories of those early days are all positive....Lloyd was such a decent person, even as a young kid. His intelligence shown brightly and we all respected him for that, as well as for being such a "good guy". We knew he'd accomplish a lot in his life....and he did. Happy for him to have had a loving family with him as he entered his final reward. May all the good memories of him remain in their hearts. We will all cherish the memories of such a good person.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Lloyd Short - we attended St. Mary's Catholic School and later Shanley in Fargo. Lloyd was a wonderful person even as a young child. He was compassionate, cared about others and had a deep spiritual sense about him. He will be remembered with great fondness by many.

I worked for Lloyd in publishing, in the 90's. I haven't seen him since but I've thought of him many times. How could you not? I remember stories of him braving a snow stormy plain, driving a NY cab and drinking a glass of olive oil after a fat fast. And many more. If lives are best measured in range, accomplishment, grit, principle, quiet severity, rare intelligence and delightful kindness, then Lloyd indeed lived with greatness. Oh boy, how I would like to travel the spectrum of America experienced by Lloyd. I would love to have his measured decisiveness, intuitive gusto and charming commitment to love. My condolences to his family and friends, but also my congratulations for having been so close to such a staggering presence. He gave me a wooden figurine of a human figure once and I've kept it all these years. He also gave me insight into the genuineness of which a human figure is capable. I will join you in keeping Lloyd's memory alive.

We said goodbye to a great friend, Lloyd Short, yesterday. It was done with heartfelt words, music, prayer, and the love of those present and afar. Lloyd never had the chance to perform this song in church, but asked that it be sung it at his funeral. Click on the link below, close your eyes, listen to the words, and imagine it in Lloyd's voice. (This rendition is performed by the composer Bob Dufford, SJ).

I can picture Lloyd many years ago perched on his ergonomic kneeling chair revising my edits while sipping tea. He would suddenly get teary eyed and start talking about his girls or how his newborn son had smiled that morning. He experienced joy deeply and shared it with others. He will be greatly missed.
As I write this, I can hear Lloyd harrumphing over my shoulder.

Lloyd gave me my first job in publishing in 1990, and was always so compassionate and kind and balanced, even when the tenor at the office became stressful. He was innovative and multi-faceted and absolutely fascinating. It seems so fitting that he became dedicated to the theatre later in life; such a perfect place for him to express the many lives he lived in his single lifetime. Rest in peace, Lloyd. You made an impression on so many, and you will be missed.

Lloyd gave me my first publishing job (sending a computer home with me from my interview), for which I always will be grateful. I also babysat for his children on a few occasions and know how devoted he was to his family. It was an honor to call him my boss and my friend.

Lloyd was a wonderful man. I very much enjoyed the time we spent together. We worked together on several State College Community Theatre shows. He was also my wife's theater husband once.
Lloyd could talk knowledgeably on almost any topic. He will be missed.
