Obituary of Reuben Wolfe II
Reuben E. Wolfe, 83, died at his residence in State College. He was born in Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, PA to the late Reuben E. Wolfe, l, and Elsie Moyer Wolfe. Reuben graduated with honors from Schuylkill Haven High School in 1945. In 1949 he earned a bachelor of science degree and in 1959 a master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from Penn State University. He was named a member of the National Scientific Honor Society. His post-graduate work continued in 1979 at George Washington University. As a licensed professional engineer he published numerous technical papers in the field of microwave engineering. He was first employed in 1950 as a test engineer by Sylvania Electric for four years then as a microwave engineer by HRB (now Raytheon) Company for 40 years after which he became an independent consultant until 2006. He was a specialist in linear beam microwave high power tube devices and served as an advisor to specific military operations. From 1950 to 1970, he was a licensed private aircraft pilot. He was a former officer of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a member of several local vocal groups and a trumpet player in the Little German Band. In 1960, he married Wanda Boal, who preceded him in death. He is survived by their son, R. Edward Wolfe, III and daughter-in-law Kathy Johnson Wolfe of Port Matilda, PA and a daughter Marie Wolfe of State College. He is also survived by a sister, Vema Wolfe of Schuylkill Haven. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Bast of Allentown, P A.
Visitation will be 12:00-1:00 P.M., Friday, May 20, 2011 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Karen Bunting Urbanski officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sight Loss Support Group at 111 Sowers Street #310 State College, PA 16801.
