Obituary of Constance Miceli Infield

Constance “Connie” Miceli Infield, 88, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at The Atrium - Village at Penn State. She was born on April 2, 1927 in Kane, PA, the daughter of the late Gaetano “Guy” and Christina Miceli. On December 27, 1956 she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Infield, who died unexpectedly on October 8, 1992. Connie was preceded in death by her two brothers, Carmen and Charles Miceli, and by Charles’ wife, Jean. Connie graduated from Penn State in 1948 with a degree in Biology and a minor in Physical Education. Upon graduation, Connie began her teaching career in the St. Marys School District, staying for a brief time. She soon moved to State College where she worked in the State College Area School District for 25 years, until her retirement. While there, Connie worked to establish the award-winning Cooperative Work Experience Program for the district. After the death of her husband, she returned to teaching—this time at the South Hills Business School. She also served as a volunteer for many years at Centre Volunteers in Medicine. Connie was an active supporter of the State College and Penn State communities, and at one time a member of the Nittany Lion Club, Lady Lion Cager Club, Centre Hills Country Club, and the Elks Club. She was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed rooting for Penn State Football, Lady Lion Basketball, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Connie’s passion for sports led to her affectionate nickname, Bucco. And whether it was game day or not, Connie’s kitchen was always open. In a matter of minutes she could transform an empty table into a feast of delicious home-cooked dishes. Connie is survived by three sons; John “Jack” Infield and his wife Karen, Guy “Dan” Infield, and James “Jay” Infield and his wife Leslie; 5 grandchildren, Kaitlin, Danny, Sara, Laura, and Matthew; and by 2 great-grandchildren, James and Danny. Her grandchildren always affectionately referred to Connie as “Grandtwo.” The family would like to thank the staff at The Atrium - Village at Penn State. We are so grateful for the compassion, care, and support they showed during Connie’s final years. A burial mass will be held on Friday, September 18 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, where Connie was a parishioner for more than 60 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Centre Foundation, to benefit South Hills Business School, in memory of Constance “Connie” M. Infield. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College. Online condolences and signing of the guest book may be entered at www.Kochfuneralhome.com.
