Obituary of Geraldine S. Betts

Geraldine “Gerri” Shingler Betts, 93, died Sunday, September 20, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born January 28, 1922, she was the daughter of Luther and Elizabeth Shingler of Seward, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Warren; brothers Frank, Blair, and Maurice “Rudy” Shingler; and sisters Emma Kline and Wanda Shingler. She is survived by her sister Winona Mullis of Greenwich, CT. Gerri is also survived by her son Barry and his wife, Barbara, of St. Augustine, FL; her daughter, Eleanor Trice and her husband, Reverend Richard, of West Bloomfield, NY; her son Richard and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lemont, PA; grandchildren David Betts, Rev. Dr. Rebecca Letterman, Patty Thom, Dr. Pamela Trice, and Rikki and Michael Betts; and great-grandchildren Hannah Letterman and Adam and Emma Gorski. Gerri resided at Village Heights, State College, from 2012 until her death. She was a member of Mount Nittany United Methodist Church since relocating to Lemont in 1999 and a member of Latrobe United Methodist Church for the previous 43 years. There will be no viewing. Friends and family will be received at a memorial service at 11:30 AM, Monday, September 28, at Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Road, State College, PA, 16801. Reverend Carl Hill will be officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Inurnment will be at Unity Cemetery, Latrobe, PA, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Nittany United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
