I have only recently seen of Dr. Freije's passing. He cared for my husband in the late 90's at Upstate Medical in Syracuse. Though Neil passed in 1998 we were so appreciative of your Dad's kindness and skill as he tried to be of help. We were both blessed to have known him if only for a short time. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Shocked and sad to hear of this. He was my daughters Doctor at the Guthrie and did two sinus surgeries for her. We struggled after he left the areas and followed him to State College as he was aware of her issues and treatment for relief. She outgrew some allergies and was able to go without need to see him in the year and half. Prayers to his family . We are very glad to have had him in our lives!!!

I was shocked and saddened to see that Dr, Freije had died. I was once a patient of his and I found him a pleasant and certainly competent doctor. Although I did not know him personally, I feel that this is such a waste of a young and highly personable professional person.

Dear Paul and Carter, I worked with your dad the entire time he was at Guthrie . He was a wonderful teacher, mentor and great person. The world will be a sadder place without him. I was fortunate to see him on Monday October 5 when he came to Sayre to visit Dr. Tolhurst in the ICU. Jim seemed happy , joking and showed us pictures of Paul,Carter and Lucy on his phone. He told us how proud he was of his sons and how much joy Lucy brought to his life. Please know many of us in the OR who knew him share this deep loss with his family. Fondly, Sherry Pinkard

I knew Jim from his time at the Guthrie Clinic. He took care of myself and my family for which I will always be greatly appreciative. At times, he would call me for my opinion on cases as I would of him. When he left the clinic, I considered it a big loss but your loss now is beyond any of my words. I will always consider him a friend. I am so sorry.

What a jolt to learn of Jim’s passing! Jim and the Freije family are a central part of my wonderful memories of growing up on Helen Street in Binghamton. Basketball in the driveway, baseball and football in the West Junior field, popcorn in the kitchen, Christopher the Sheepdog, so many great memories! I always felt just as comfortable in the Freije house as I did in my own. Over the years Jim and I were able to rendezvous in Des Moines, Burlington, Milwaukee, and Syracuse. It was always great to reunite with my longest-standing friend.
My heartfelt condolences to Jim’s sons, Marcia, as well as to Mrs. Freije, Ellen, Betsy, Laura, and Dick. I will be sending healing thoughts and prayers your way in the weeks and months ahead.
Fondly,

My deepest condolences and sympathies to Marcia, Carter, and Paul for their loss. Dr Freije (also known as "Freij") was an outstanding surgeon who treated his patients with the best possible care. He treated those who worked with him with the utmost kindness and respect. Personally, I am a better person and medical provider because of him. It is with deep sadness that I will be unable to attend his funeral services. He will be greatly missed. And so I will say good-bye Freij, rest in peace.

I broke down crying when my wife Judy called me from work this morning to tell me of Dr. Freije's death. I am heartbroken for the family and my deepest condolences are extended. Doc Freije is my hero because he saved my life from stage 4 throat cancer in September of 2005 and he ensured that only the best of the best took care of me for the 3 other different cancers I had over the next 18 months. His bedside manner and compassion was his pillar strength as a physician. May his family be assured that he was a giant of a man for the many lives that he so positively touched when he was away from them helping others. I will never ever forget my hero.

I am so very sorry for your loss. It seems like yesterday that I was playing basketball with Jimmy in the driveway waiting for Ellen to get ready for a date. And then out of the blue, Jim is not only a coworker at Guthrie but my across the street neighbor in Athens. Jim and I shared many conversations and emails during his time at Guthrie. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and Jims children.

Our most sincere condolences to your family for the loss of Dr. Freije. We first met him when our older son needed tubes in his ears, and we were so impressed with Dr. Freije's bedside manner with our son (who was 1 1/2 at the time) and with us, as first-time parents going through a new medical scenario. He was honest, kind, and gentle with all of us. We most recently interacted with him when he put tubes in our baby's ears about six weeks ago. We are so sorry to hear of his death, and our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Freije's family and friends.

My sincere condolences on the loss of such a wonderful man. As a physician there was none better. Dr. Freije treated my mother for throat cancer in 2009 and 2010 at Guthrie. She and our family thought the world of him. He was caring, compassionate and above all non-judgemental. He treated her as though she were one of his own and she responded to his warm and healing nature. Alas, we lost her in 2010 but the cancer in her throat was gone. Only Dr. Freije could have achieved those results. He called me to give his condolences when he heard of her passing. He touched my heart that day more than he will ever know. Please take comfort in the knowledge that he has moved on to do bigger and better things. He was a giant of a man and will be missed by so many. My heart go out to his entire family.

I was so very saddened today when I went into the office. Jim was such a brilliant man and I will continue to be forever grateful for had it not been for him, my teenage daughter would've continued to go 'undiagnosed' for a potentially fatal tumor. I am so very sorry to each of your entire family. He was a good man; a man that truly knew each and every day was one to be cherished. He will never be forgotten. My three daughters and I really loved him. My deepest sympathy ..
