Obituary of Stanley L. Hoy
Stanley L. Hoy, 87, of State College, formerly of Boalsburg, died Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born December 24, 1927, in South Williamsport, he was the son of the late Walter M. and Ruth Mowery Hoy. On June 20, 1953 he married Jean McDowell, who survives.
He is survived by two daughters, Lori E. Hoy-Ehrie and her husband, Harry, of Montrose, Leslie J. Hoy and her husband, V.P. Swaminathan, of San Antonio, TX, one grandson, Ryan M. Ehrie and his wife, Natalie and one great granddaughter, Emma Elizabeth Ehrie, Drums. Stan is also survived by a special niece, Lisa and her husband, Bruce Fay, and a great niece and nephew, Paisley and Parrish and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Rodney Hoy, a sister, Phyllis Dugan, and a niece, Marcia Smolcha.
Stan was a 1945 graduate of State College Area High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Stanley was self-employed as a surveyor, partnering with Thomas Bowes at Triangle Engineering in State College. In 1992 he retired from C. E. T. in Huntingdon. After retiring, Stan worked for College Township Engineering Department.
An outdoor enthusiast, Stan was a hunter and fisherman, enjoyed birdwatching and identifying wild flowers. He enjoyed reading, particularly Louis L'Amour westerns. He was a past member of the Boalsburg Fire Company and the Boalsburg Lions Club. Stan was also the assistant troop leader of the Boalsburg Scout Troop 380. He belonged to the Philipsburg Country Club and most recently belonged to RSVP. Stan was a charter member of PaSEC, spending hours with "the Tillies" monitoring local streams.
A visitation will be at 1:30 until 2 p.m.,on Monday, November 9, 2015, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m., at the funeral home with the Reverend Scott Schul officiating.
Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery.
