Dr. Hager was a terrific teacher and mentor to so many PSU students over the years and I am happy to be counted among them. I am grateful for the lovely memories of social occasions at the Hager's home in State College and enjoyable visits at their apartment in Rome as well. My thoughts go out to Maria and the rest of the family at this time.

As a PhD candidate, I had the pleasure of taking Prof. Hager's final course on German Baroque and Rococo. I still remember the pleasure he took in showing us all of the hidden architectural elements that made the theatrical effects possible. He was an amazing teacher and a great man. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I was privileged to have Dr. Hager as a teacher and serve as his teaching assistant for a number of courses during my graduate studies. He was a very kind, gentle and patient man and he always had time for his students. My condolences to Mrs. Hager and the rest of the family.

Dr. Hager was a huge influence on me, and was also a great friend. I had the pleasure of taking several courses with him on Baroque architecture while a graduate student at Penn State and was also fortunate enough to work as his graduate assistant for a couple of years while he was department chair. The latter experience got me my job in academia and proved to be a huge help when it was my own turn to be a department chair. We have stayed in touch over the 28 years since I left Penn State, and I have been fortunate to be able to see him at least once a year. I am saddened by his passing and extend my deepest sympathy to Maria and the extended family. I'm especially sorry not to be able to attend his funeral mass. I will be there in spirit
