Obituary of Gerald B. Diehl
Gerald B. Diehl, 88, of Boalsburg passed away November 14, 2015 while on vacation in Branson, MO, living life to the fullest. Born April 29, 1927, Gerald was the oldest son of the late F. Glenn Diehl and Ethel (Wilt) Diehl of Houtzdale, PA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Diehl and Ronald Diehl, both of Altoona, and one sister, Betty Appleby Huff of Albany, GA. He graduated from Hollidaysburg High School, Hollidaysburg, PA. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Wichita, earning an American Campaign Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal. He worked for many years for HRI, Inc. as a quarry and asphalt plant supervisor. As a youth, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and later served as scoutmaster for a troop in Osceola Mills, PA.
On June 3, 1969 he married Lucille (Henschel) Diehl of Winburne, PA, who survives. He is also survived by: four children--Roger E. Diehl (Doreen) of Boalsburg, PA, David A. Diehl (Susan) of King of Prussia, PA, Victoria V. Bright (John) of Beverly Hills, FL, Gerald R. Borger (Terry) of Christiansburg, VA; a sister--Joann Lovett of Altoona, PA; six grandchildren--Emily Diehl (Nate Reader) Salladasburg, PA, Evan Diehl (Skylar) of Howard, PA, David Diehl, Jr. of King of Prussia, PA, Brett Ritter (Elizabeth) of Seattle, WA, Leah Malmevik (John) of Blacksburg, VA, and Matthew Borger (Michelle) of Christiansburg, VA; eight great-grandchildren--Gavin Hawkins, Elizabeth Hawkins, Cooper Diehl, Jade Patton, Gabe Patton, Johnathan Malmevik, Hunter Borger, and Lilith Borger, along with many nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife all over the United States and abroad. They enjoyed square dancing with Centre Squares, camping, and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A consummate and ingenious tinkerer, if he couldn't fix something broken, he'd devise an alternate solution.
He belonged to the Pine Hall Lutheran Church in State College.
