Obituary of Dollie I. Weaver

Dollie Irene Weaver, 92, died at the State College Hearthside Nursing Home on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016. Dollie was born May 2, 1923, in Sanborn, to the late Leslie Roy Hoover and Verna Jane Yarger. She attended high school in Houtzdale, graduating in 1941. After finishing high school, she worked at the wartime Sylvania Electric Products, Incorp. factory in Mill Hall, until its closing in 1961. Dollie was featured in a PCN TV documentary on American women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II, many of whom produced munitions and war supplies. It was at Sylvania that Dollie's coworker, Flora Weaver, asked that she send film to her son, Earl, engaged in WWII fighting in Europe. This began a correspondence resulting in her marriage to Earl Weaver on April 13, 1946, following his return. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage raising a family and running their dairy farm, until Earl's death, May 1, 1997. Dollie felt her greatest accomplishment was raising her five children that she greatly loved. She received immense joy from spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening with Earl, trips to Bellville, and shopping. She was known for her infectious laughter used both in times of joy, as well as adversity. She was a member of the Stormstown United Methodist Church, and the Ivanhoe Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #28. She served on Halfmoon Township's election board for many years. Dollie is survived by three sons and two daughters, and their spouses: Roy E. and Dianne, of Warriors Mark; Leon C. and Sondra, of Port Matilda; and Larry D. and Deborah, of Osceola Mills; Ginger L. and Robert Breon, of Port Matilda; and Lisa S. Weaver and Edward Glantz, of Port Matilda. She is also survived by one sister, Ruth Kline, one brother, Richard Hoover, eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Earl Weaver, sister, Theo Dettinger, brother Wilbur Hoover, granddaughter, Deanna Weaver, and great-granddaughter Anais Mariana Breon. Service will be held at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11a.m., with Rev. Samuel Reese of Port Matilda officiating. Burial will follow at Friend's Cemetery, Warriors Mark. Visitation will be held at Koch Funeral Home on Sunday, January 24, 2016 from 1-3 and 6-8p.m. Contributions may be made the Hearthside Nursing Home activity fund, State College.
