I am deeply saddened by the loss of John Stevens. I still remember vividly John's joyful guidance of my first experimental steps when I arrived at Penn State as a summer intern. My sincere condolences!

Dear Renee,
I am so saddened to hear about John, and I do understand how you must be feeling. I am so pleased you both found some time to meet me in Liverpool last year, and will never forget your kind words after I lost my lovely husband Bob - your and John's old friend, colleague and home-brew mentor from your days at Liverpool Universtity. My thoughts are with you, and I hope we will keep in touch.

I was shocked to hear this sad news and send my condolences to Renee and to John's family.
I think I had known him for about thirty years, first in Liverpool then especially in recent years when I visited Renee and John in Pennsylvania a number of times. It was always a pleasure to spend time with John. He always seemed a gentle-man, in all senses of the words, and unflappable no matter what. The magnificent turnout for his 70th birthday party, at the Hard Day's Night Hotel in Liverpool, was a great testament to his popularity with a wide circle of friends. I shall miss him.
