Obituary of Edwin W. Biederman

Edwin W. "Ed" Biederman, PhD, 85, of State College, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born June 30, 1930, in Stamford, CT, he was the son of the late Edwin F. and Thelma Morrow Biederman. On August 23, 1958, he married Margaret Jane White, who preceded him in death on December 10, 2012. He is survived by four children, Robert Wallace Williams Biederman, MD and his wife, Kimberly, of Wexford, James Andrew Edwin Biederman and his fiancé, Lisa O'Hara, of State College, Mary Frances Margaret Wallace and her husband, Michael, of Hampton, VA and Jane Anne Aileen Haertlein and her husband, Glenn, of Greenville, SC; ten grandchildren, Brittani, Addison, Caroline, John, Nicholas, Meaghan, Kristin, Katie, Danielle and Preston; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Dean. Ed was a 1947 graduate of Andover High School, Andover, MA. He received a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 1951 and a PhD in 1957 in Geology from Penn State University. He served in the United States Army as a 1st LT (T) from October of 1952 until October of 1954 during the Korean Conflict. Ed retired on July 3, 2001 as the Assistant Director of the PA Technical Assistant Program for PENNTAP. Prior to that he was employed by Cities Services Oil Co in Tulsa, Ok and Princeton, NJ. He was a member of St. Albans Anglican Church. He was also a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. In 1972 he was rated one of the top 10 Petroleum Engineers in the United Sates. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., on Friday, March 25, 2016, at St. Albans Anglican Church, 146 Pine Grove Rd, Pine Grove Mills, with The Most Reverend Council Nedd II officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Albans Anglican Church, PO Box 170, Pine Grove Mills, PA 16868.
