Obituary of Ralph E. Young

Ralph E. Young Sr., 88, of Centre Hall, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Centre Crest Nursing Home. Born August 30, 1927, he was the son of George and Vera Struble Young. On January 25, 1948 he married Elsie Andreas and on April 17, 1965 he married Marilyn Johnston both preceded him in death. Ralph is survived by five children. Rev. Ralph E. Young, Jr. and his wife Debra, of Versailles KY; Barbara E. McKinley of Pittsburgh, PA; Kenneth E. Young and his wife, Linda, of Canton OH; Dorothy Y. MCCracken and her husband, Daniel, of Pittsburgh, PA; and Amy M. Immel of Tyrone, PA. He is also survived by his two sisters, Jean Kirkpatrick of Bellefonte and Nancy Shawley of Milesburg; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Ralph was also preceded in death by his brother, George Young. Ralph graduated from Bellefonte Area High School in 1945. He served in World War II as a Private in the United States Army. Following his service he was employed as a master plumber and then at Penn State as an estimator for thirty-three years. Ralph was a member for more than 50 years of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Men's Brotherhood Class, where he served as president for two years. Ralph enjoyed playing for the Senior Citizens Band of State College and volunteering at Centre County Hospital. Visitation will be on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, PA. Funeral services will follow the visitation on Friday, April 8, at 1:30 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home with Reverend Neal Lassinger officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park. College Avenue, State College, PA 16801 or the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #1032, 454 Rolling Ridge Drive #1, State College, PA 16801.
