I'm thankful to be included in the notification of Peg's passing. She was so supportive when I taught at Penn State, always ready with a warm smile. My greatest experience of her strength and humor was in the Pennsylvania Centre Stage production of STEEL MAGNOLIAS. She played Clairee, with great wisdom and delight. We all had our personal challenges during that rehearsal process, but Peg helped me to use mine for the enrichment of the performance, as I watched her example. I send my condolences to Joe and the entire family.

You do not know me; however, Mrs. French is the reason my husband and I developed a love of the theatre arts. While our daughter, Jeanine, was a student at Penn State in the eighties, she took one of Mrs. French's courses, where the students were required to attend performances. Since we live close to Penn State, we started attending concerts and performances with her, and we have followed the programs at Eisenhower ever since that time. For a few years, I also was a member of the community support committee of Eisenhower. I send my deepest sympathy to all the family. Your mother touched many lives with her love of the theatre.

Our hearts go out to the French family in their loss of my Aunt Peg. Some of my earliest memories center around our shared time in Bloomington, and Peg was always the leader of the band. One more lap around the barn before getting into the car!!
My mother Sue Toman regarded her sister in law Peg so highly that she named my sister after her-- quite a compliment.
My Aunt Peg would be very happy and proud to see how her extended family has turned out. Jim, John, and Jane...and their families... have done honor to their mother.
I'd like to think that Peg, Jeff French, and my mom are attending the opening act of their next great adventure.... together. Break a leg, Peg.

Dear Joe and family: I'm so sorry to learn of Peg's passing. She was such a major part of my summers at the Barn, right from the beginning--Dolly was my first show as an apprentice. I remember you two hosting the wedding of Kathleen McGrath and Jerry James, and your presence at the party my father held following my wedding (20 years ago this fall). How can I start? Peg has meant so much to me and to my family. I didn't have the pleasure and challenge of having her as a teacher, but it meant so much that she went on to add so much to her life after I knew her most intimately in the 70s. I'm afraid that words fail me, but I hope that your memories of her will comfort you in the difficult days ahead.

I am so deeply saddened to hear of the loss of one of the most influential teachers and mentors I have ever had. I am so very blessed to have had Peg as a teacher while studying theatre at PSU. She was a joy and a wealth of knowledge and inspiration on a daily basis. As I write this message I am crying tears of both loss and gratitude. Peg was one of the all time greats. I will try very hard to make it to the service. She was someone who shaped my life in a profound way.
