Obituary of Aileen M. Konhauser

Aileen M. Konhauser, 95, of State College, formerly of Edina, MN, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at The Pines, Juniper Village at Brookline. Born December 16, 1920, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Herman A. and Genevieve Murphy Holz. On August 19, 1948 she married Joseph D.E. Konhauser, who preceded her in death on February 28, 1992. She is survived by her son, Daniel Konhauser, his wife, Maxine Moerman, and granddaughter Anya Konhauser, of San Francisco, CA; nieces, Janet Bivard, Cathy Harbison, Heather Gaw, and Gretchen Finnegan; nephew, Tim Holz; relatives by marriage, Helen Haugh and Marilyn Haugh; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her husband, Joseph, Aileen is preceded in death by her sister, Adele Haugh, and brother, Harold Holz. Aileen attended Penn State University, receiving her bachelor's degree in Institution Management in 1942 and her master's degree in Health Administration in 1951. Aileen was a Registered Dietitian for over 50 years. She was a faculty member of the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State University. In addition, she pioneered food labeling at Byerlys grocery store in Minnesota in the 1970's. Aileen was honored as a 50 year member of the American Dietetic Association. She was also a member of the Penn State University Women's Club, Lady Lion Cager Club, and the Women's Volleyball Club. She was a world traveler and visited Easter Island, China, and Thailand. She enjoyed her summer home in Saugerties, NY. Always curious, Aileen also loved reading, playing bridge, observing birds, and watching Penn State Sports, including football, volleyball, and basketball. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, June 10th at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, PA.
