Obituary of Sandra Lee Douthitt

Sandra Lee Douthitt, 72, of State College, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016, at home after a three year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born May 20, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Sandy was the daughter of Regis J. and Bernadine Stein Horstman. On April 8, 1967, in Pittsburgh she married the love of her life Walter D. (Dan) Douthitt, who survives at home. They were happily married for 49 years. Sandy is also survived by her son, Scott David Douthitt and his wife, Kristin, of Vail, CO; grandchild, Colby Jeffrey Douthitt of Vail, CO; brother, John N. Horstman and his wife, Sherry, of Celebration, FL; sister, Nancy Lovitz and her husband, Glenn, of The Woodlands, TX; In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Aaron Douthitt in 2001. Sandy graduated from Fox Chapel High School in 1962. She received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1966 from Clarion State College now Clarion University. Sandy was a teacher for St. Marys Pennsylvania School District, South San Antonio Texas School District, Lackland AFB Texas Independent School District, and Newport News Virginia School District. Additionally Sandy was a partner in the Colonel's Ladies gift shop in Boalsburg. Sandy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, State College. Sandy found great joy decorating and organizing gatherings with friends and family. A visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., Sate College, with Rev. Scott Schul officiating. Burial will be in the Boalsburg Cemetery.
