Obituary of Jean Wade Sovocool
Jean Wade Sovocool, 95, died September 21, 2016 at The Atrium, The Village at Penn State
Jean was born February 10, 1921 in Farrell PA to Rolland Jay Matthews and her mother Marie Olwyn Williams, who had emigrated from Wales, UK at the age of 15.
She was raised in Oakmont, PA where her dad worked for Edgewater Steel Co.
Jean graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh where she worked until Pearl Harbor was bombed in December 1941. She and a friend decided to be part of the war effort, and joined the US Navy Nurse corps.
Stationed in Newport RI in1942, she met and married her first husband, navy physician Edward Mee, and they went on to have 5 children.
In addition to her first husband, Jean was preceded in death by second husband James Wade, brother David Matthews, and sons Edward and Jeffrey Mee.
She is survived by husband Roger B. Sovocool, daughters Barbara Mee Bird, Lori Mee Holmes, and son David Mee. She has 9 grandchildren and10 great grandchildren.
There will be a service in late October in Evanston, IL in her memory.
