I was a member of the CREW winegroup with Tom for 11 years. He was quite knowledgable about wine, and always willing to talk about it. Although Tom and I were probably on opposite ends of the political spectrum, it never got in the way of our friendship. One of my favorite memories of Tom is that he once explained to me, in clear and concise language, how a water softener works. Really. I will certainly miss him.
