Obituary of Janet B. Irion

Janet B. Irion, 85, of Pleasant Gap, died Monday, December 19, 2016, at The Oaks at Pleasant Gap. Born March 24, 1931 in Graysville, she was the daughter of C. Melvin and Ella Mildred Graham Barto. She married Max W. Irion on September 17, 1950, who preceded her in death on June 6, 1998. Janet is survived by three children, Steve A. Irion and his wife, Sherry of Stormstown, Marie Caster and her husband, David of Centre Hall, Teresa J. Nordberg and her husband, Michael of Boalsburg, and; five grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, Angela Rothfuss and her husband, Ray, Gannon and his wife, Sarah, Eric and his wife, Sarah, and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Jack and Brody. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Roger Scott, in 1962. Janet graduated from State College High School in 1949. She worked as a secretary for 31 years. She began her career at Penn State University for 5 years and later worked at State College Area School District from 1966 until 1992 when she retired. Janet was a member of Pine Grove Mills Presbyterian Church. In her youth she achieved perfect attendance for 25 years. She helped plan the Pine Grove Mills Bicentennial and volunteered as an Election Poll Worker. Janet was also an avid Penn State sports fan. She enjoyed camping and also attended the Annual Grange Fair for many years. Most of all, her family was her life. Visitation will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 5-7 pm and Friday, December 23, 2016 from 10-11 am at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Koch Funeral Home with the Reverend Carl Campbell officiating. Interment will be at 11 am Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Centre County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the Donor's choice.
