It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Professor Eric Cross on December 29, 2016. I was one of Dr. Cross’ former graduate students. Dr. Cross was the mentor and academic father who provided me an opportunity to be his graduate student in year 1994 and guided me throughout my PhD program at Penn State that changed my life and career. The four years study in Dr. Cross’ group is the best time in my life, and his teaching and mentoring inspired me greatly. Not just had I learned a lot from him in ferroelectrics, and piezoelectric devices, Dr. Cross has always been regarded a role model in my academic profession.
I wish to express my sincerest condolences to the family of Prof. Eric Cross. I will miss him forever.

Dr. L. Eric Cross was an honorable professor of our institute, and he was always so elegant, and shared us his idea in the field of ferroelectrics. I still remember that he told me he has visited China more than 22 times when he was later two times in Shanghai. Dr. Cross gave many helpful guidances to many students and colleagues on Chinese ferroelectric community. He is our friend and will live in our heart forever.
Dr. Cross was a giant in the ferroelectric field in world. His passing fills us all with great sorrow. We would like to join with our colleagues in extending my sincere condolences to all of you and, in particular, his family.

I wish to express my condolences to the family of Eric Cross. He was my thesis advisor from 1967-1973, and I am forever grateful for his guidance and advice. It was one of life’s great pleasures to be associated with Professor Cross. I remember him as a kind thoughtful man who opened up opportunities. I benefitted gratefully from his mentoring and largess, then and forever since. Looking back over my career and others I can see the impact he made. He truly was a great man.

Dearest Dad:
It's hard to believe you are gone. You have been such a guiding light and supportive presence in all of our lives. You were the bedrock upon which our family was grounded and we miss you so much. You were the living embodiment of kindness, humbleness, and you were a true gentleman, always. Most of all, I will miss your humor. Your funny songs, your terrible jokes, your spoonerisms are now ingrained in our shared history and will be continued on for years to come. And don't worry Dad: I promise I will always drive carefully when I have Chris in the car, because he is precious cargo. And he promises that he will always "look after Mother", just like you asked every time that we left you.
I hope you are with Mom and Peter. We miss you all.
