Obituary of James Greer
James P. "Pat" Greer, 81, a State College resident, died Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Juniper Village in State College. Born February 7, 1935 in Bradford, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Dr. Darius and Katherine Dempsey Greer. He graduated from Bradford High School in 1953, where he distinguished himself as an outstanding student athlete, excelling in track and football. He was a 1957 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where he majored in finance. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, to include overseas service in Korea. Following eight years as a bank examiner for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, he moved to Easton, Pennsylvania in 1965, where he was a commercial bank executive until his retirement in 1987. As a banker, he was an early advocate of the technologies that would eventually transform the industry, such as drive-through tellers and automated teller machines. Pat was a lifelong sports fan, especially when it came to his passion for Penn State Nittany Lions football. A pillar of his community, he served as a director of the Easton YMCA for many years, and actively supported countless local charities. An avid distance runner, he was a finisher of both the New York City and Boston marathons. He is survived by his three children: Kevin Greer of Evergreen, Colorado, Kelly Walker and husband Thomas of State College, Pennsylvania, and Patrick Greer of State College, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren. Please direct memorial donations to the National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 100, Miami, FL 33131.
