I first met Viv during my undergraduate studies at Penn State. Dr. Harold Harpster was my adviser she she worked with him at the time. Viv was always a bright smile and extremely helpful when one was having a difficult time. After graduation I first worked at the Meat Lab and she would often come out assisting graduate students with their projects. I remember her humor and laughter even during difficult times. I since continued working at the University and would run into Viv around town. It was always as if time had not gone by at all. I wish I had known she passed. I would have like to have said good bye more personally but she will always be in my heart and memories. My heartfelt sympathies to her family. She talked of you often Mary with great joy in her eyes.

Vivian will be remembered for her gentle, yet solid spirit - filled with compassion and thoughtfulness. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren, and valued time with friends from many different walks of life. Our time in girl scouting through the years, will forever remain special memories for me, and the rest of our troop. What a joy it was to know you, Vivian - you will be greatly missed on this earth.

I'm so sad to hear of Viv's passing. I enjoyed working with her and Dr. Harpster in the Ag labs doing data entry back in the mid to late 90's at Penn State. She was so easy to talk to and truly a mom away from home. I'm remember her always talking about Mary and George. She is with the angels now. Thinking of her and her family and sending my deepest sympathy and prayers.

Viv (as I knew her) always had a great smile and encouraging word for anyone she met in the halls of Penn State's Animal Science dept; or anywhere else I saw her for that matter! It was wonderful to have her as a co-worker and I always looked forward to hearing her latest news of family or friends or students. Even after she retired she still kept me updated on news, constantly inspiring me and those around her to reach out and care for others. She will be greatly missed.

Dear Mary,
Your mother was so very kind, sweet, and generous. She loved people. She loved her grandchildren. She loved you, Mary. I’ll always vividly remember her walking down the hall in Henning Building holding you in her arms! Her heart was so full of love!
Your mother and I worked together for 35 years; and even after retirement, we kept in touch. We would have lunch and talk for hours. I will very much miss her. She was a dear friend; and the many, many years of memories will live long in my heart.
I pray for you and your family. I pray for peace during this difficult time. May our good Lord watch over you and your family, and keep you in His care.

We send our deepest condolences to Viv's dear family and many, many friends. Having known Viv since 1979, and having worked with for her decades, she gave of herself so generously in all that she did for the Department of Animal Science. As an advisor, she was a remarkable mentor and "Mom" to countless students. They dearly revered her. Viv left an enormous legacy of giving to others and pursuing the "greater good". She helped so many people is so many impactful ways!! One of her legacy's is the life values she imparted to 100's of students in Animal Science and other majors, as well as her colleagues. She was such a special and selfless role model for all us. Her memory will live on. God bless her family and may peace be with them.

I am very sorry to hear of Viv's passing. As a student, she was very supportive and helpful to me. Over the course of the last 30 years, it was always a pleasure to see her wherever we would happen to run in to each other. Always with a smile, she would greet me and then ask how my daughter, Mary, was doing. She was a dear, wonderful person who will be sorely missed. You have my sincerest condolences. May the grace of God support you as you go through this difficult time.

Girl Scouts has lost a great member. All of us who spent time with Viv (Mrs Baumer) were blessed to have known her. Although we did so much with her over the years, just a week ago we were talking about the Girl's Senior trip to Boston. On that wonderful trip, Viv got her one and only speeding ticket!!! And boy did that urk her!! She was so proud of her flawless driving record.
She was leading the way up the mountains just past Scranton. I fell behind, as the curves were tight, and I was driving the big vehicle. Then I saw the flashing lights. They had gotten VIV. I was not able to stop behind all of them, but I pulled over as soon as I could find a place, and waited. Then my cell phone rang. You see Viv was driving my daughter's car, and although my daughter was in the car, no one knew where to find the registration!!! It was in the door pocket. All was good, and it was a great trip, with one little mishap! Thankfully, we didn't get tickets for making illegal U turns in Boston.
I could share many other stories, but that is the one we most recently talked about.
Thanks VIV,
N

Mary, Nick and family -
My heart breaks to read Viv's obituary. I thoroughly enjoyed all my time with her, whether it be at a Girl Scout event or at Curves, working out together and chatting about life. I know for sure that she was incredibly proud of you, her daughter, and loved to share stories about you. And boy, oh boy, was she ever happy when she found out you two were going to be moving back to town! I imagine her time together with you has been her most cherished of all.
Our deepest and sincerest sympathies, Mary -
Sue & Jim
