Obituary of Patricia F. Mayes

Patricia F. "Pat" Mayes, 83, of State College, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Hershey Medical Center. Born July 13, 1933 in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of Joseph Furfaro and Theresa Capperella. She married Boyd Eugene "Gene" Mayes, on September 8, 1956, who survives at home. She is survived by two children, Terri Henderson and her husband, Jim of State College and Robbie Mayes of State College; two grandchildren, Connor and Dylan Henderson. Pat is also survived by her siblings, Carmella Harter of State College and Joseph Furfaro, Jr. of Bellefonte. She was preceded in death by her parents. Pat was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. She held a long-term career as an accounting clerk for the Office of Physical Plant at Penn State University until she retired in 1994. For many years she also devoted her time to providing child daycare in her home, including after her retirement the care of her beloved grandsons. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and St. Vincent De Paul Society. She volunteered in St Vincent De Paul Thrift Shop and was also a member of the Marsh Creek Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, walking and attending her grandsons' activities and performances. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church 820 Westerly Pkwy, State College, PA 16801 with Father Neil Dadey officiating.
