Obituary of Doris I. Barto

Doris I. Barto, 91, of Pine Grove Mills, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Elmcroft of State College. Born July 8, 1925, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Willis A. and Bertha Gates Schilling. On December 31, 1945 she married Eugene K. Barto, who preceded her in death on September 19, 2001. She is survived by three children, Kenneth Barto and his wife, Kathy, of Petersburg, Edna Shuey and her husband, Ron, of Pine Grove Mills and Linda Everhart and her husband, Jim, of Boalsburg; two sisters, Lois Barto, her twin, of Warriors Mark and Janet Rider of Gatesburg; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Doris was a 1943 graduate of State College High School. From 1955 until 1968 she was the Co-owner of Barto's IGA in Pine Grove Mills. Afterwards she was employed as a bank teller at First National Bank, South Hills Branch in State College, later known as Mellon Bank. Doris was a member of the Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, Pine Grove Mills, where she was a Sunday School Teacher for 25 years and a Deacon. She was also a member of the Ferguson Township Senior Citizens Center and Valley Friends. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering and word puzzles. Doris's life revolved around her family. Visitation will be from 10 until 11:30 a.m., on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, 150 W. Pine Grove Rd., Pine Grove Mills. Funeral service will follow at the church at 11:30 a.m. with the Reverend Carl Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Mills Cemetery.
