I first met Larry when we were both living in Elkins Park and when he first went to Nova University. I will always consider him the truest friend I’ve ever had and the world seems a lot darker without the light he provided. I cannot imagine the loss his family must feel at this time
but I send all my prayers and very deepest sympathy. I will never forget him.

My deepest sympathy to all who feel this loss. I first met Larry in 1975 at a professional conference as a psychology intern presenting a poster, where he stopped by to offer suggestions about our data analysis. When I arrived at Pitt, I met him again through a mutual colleague, who suggested he was looking for study therapists for an agoraphobia study. Little did I know that this would lead to involvement in a series of excellent studies, papers, grants and participation as a clinician, collaborator and co-investigator, a career-long clinical interest, collateral opportunities to be involved in evidence-based research at the highest professional level and training at the Center for Cognitive Therapy, and ultimately the intellectual foundation for the development of a private behavioral health clinic in Pittsburgh that has endured for 27 years and employed 22 staff. He was an exemplar in dedication to excellence in his work. During our years at Pitt, he was a good friend and collaborator, strengthened my writing and publication opportunities, offered the occasional game of raquetball, even hosted me for several days after a house fire, and our mutual interest in martial arts inspired my continued training. Our work in anxiety informed my thinking, practice, and standards for care for these past decades. I shall remember his brilliance, curiosity, drive for excellence, humor, friendship and passion for work and life.

Larry and I worked closely together early in our careers in Pittsburgh. We had a lot of fun and hopefully did some positive things. I had not known that Larry had been ill and am very saddened by his passing. He was a very gentle and kind man who was deeply committed to bettering the lives of everyone with whom he had contact. My sincere condolences to all of his family.

My sincerest condolences to Sandra and all of Larry's family. As Larry's colleague, I am grateful for knowing him. I shall always remember him as a brilliant innovator, a dedicated and prodigious researcher, and -above all - as a friendly, compassionate
human being.

What a privilege and delight to be a friend and collaborator. Larry was a joy and often the time together was so enjoyable it was hard to believe we might be working. A huge loss for us all. My warm wishes and thoughts to family and other friends.

Larry was my mentor and my friend.
I saw him as the gifted clinical researcher that he was and observed how he helped many individuals move to a healthier mental state. His teaching and writing contributed greatly to the progress of understanding and treating anxiety disorders. Larry was also very generous human being, doing whatever he could in order to provide help to those suffering.
Larry also allowed me a glimpse into his heart; he was one of the most caring individuals I have ever met - although not always able to express it in a way that was understood. He loved people and animals - and sometimes he was unable to convey just how much. He was a good soul, who suffered, and moved forward as long as he could.
My heart hurts because the world has lost him. In addition, I regret not visiting him as often as I thought of him.
Ellen, Gary, Mark and Eric; I am truly sorry for your loss.
