Obituary of Kay L. Campbell Burd
Kay L. Campbell Burd, 71, of Centre Hall, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center after a brief, unexpected illness.
Born December 11, 1945, in Dubois, Kay was the daughter of the late Merle and LaGene McIntyre Campbell. On Aug. 5, 1972 in State College she married Joel W. Burd
In addition to her husband, Joel of Centre Hall, Kay is survived by her daughter, Jamie Burd Ryan of Lemont; son, Kurt Burd, and Stefania, of State College; grandchildren, Finnegan, Gabriella, Alessia, and Luca; sister, Kim Chaklos, and her husband, Greg, of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Gregory Burd in 1974.
Kay graduated from State College Area High School and received her bachelor's degree from Penn State University. She was an administrative assistant for the late Vice Provost, Dr. W. Terrel Jones, at Penn State University until her retirement, after 30 years. After her retirement, she became the office manager for the family business, Burd's Lanscaping.
Kay was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a committed animal rescuer and devoted her later years to the welfare of drop-offs and stray animals. Kay abided by the motto: one stray is never enough.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Advent Cemetery.
