Obituary of Robert M. Shevchik
Robert M. "Shev" Shevchik, 82, of State College, died on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Centre Crest, Bellefonte, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born September 25, 1934 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Michael G. and Margaret Mary Stofko Shevchik. On September 30, 1955, he married Barbara Bohn, who survives.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by three children, Kim Clouser and her husband, Jan, of State College, Mark Shevchik and his wife, Tamara, of Clearwater, FL, and Renee Shevchik of State College; four siblings, Mickey Shevchik his wife, Sandy, of Export, Grant Shevchik, MD of Murrysville, Joe Shevchik of Ebensburg, and Margie Soles and her husband Bill of North Huntingdon; three grandchildren, Allen Clouser, Andrea McGregor and her husband, Bruce, all of State College and Graham Shevchik of Clearwater, FL.
Robert spent three years at Penn State University prior to joining the Marine Corps in 1955. He spent 31 years as a U.S. Marine with training in electronics, but most of the time was on the
Marine corps Reserve Pistol team. Achieving the rank of E-9, or Master Gunnery Sargent.
He won many Local, State and National pistol shooting titles. Bob received his BS Degree in Business Administration from Kennedy-Western University in 1987.
He went to Vietnam three times in the late 1960's as a civilian working for HRB singer on the electronics of Mohawk and Blackhawk helicopters and on missile detection electronics on the aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise.
He started Emby "MB" Automotive with his brother Mickey in 1971, later Emby Sunoco and Recreation Unlimited. He became known as the "Land Rover Guy" for parts in the entire North East of the United States throughout the 1970's and 1980's.
He attended Faith United Methodist Church, Bellefonte. He was also a member of the PA Game Commission, Deputy Game Protector, a life member of the Marine Corps League and Association, the VFW post #5828, the American Legion post #245, the Knights of columbus,-3rd Degree post #4678, the Outdoor Sportsman's Club, the Seven Mountains Pistol club, and a proud Patron and Member of the NRA. Bob was a proud 51 year and founding member of the Efesee Lodge Reunion in Hammersley Fork.
Bob was an avid hunter and fly-fisherman, teaching many people over the years how to do both. He volunteered on the summer Olympic Biathlon held in Scotia for many years along with his daughter Renee.
Even in spirit, he will be giving his firm farewell handshake to all.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m., on Friday, April 7, 2017, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.
An additional visitation will be from 12 until 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m., at the funeral home, with the Reverend Terry Daugherty officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests for memorial contributions to be made to the National Parks Foundation at www.nps.gov/getinvolved/donate, or to 365 Hospice, at 100 Oakwood Ave, suite 800, State college, PA 16803.
