Being one of Dr. Wickersham's Penn State Master's degree students in 1975, I followed his foot steps and advice, earning my Ph.D. in physiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980 with an emphasis in reproductive physiology. (I later went on to veterinary school and have owned my own practice since 1993.) He was a very warm and memorable mentor, had the most delightful sense of humor and always had the best interests of his students at heart. Clearly he inspired me to follow his lead. My education, experiences and friendships developed in Madison, WI were only possible because of his freely given encouragement. Although I studied with him only one year at Penn State, it was an extremely memorable time. Our research laboratory was one of learning and laughter, forging friendships that have lasted and grown over the years. I have so many fond memories of being his teaching assistant. That one year of my life I spend under his tutelage is one I treasure. He has been thought of often through the years and will continue to be so. I thank his entire family for sharing him with us. Please know we all share in your heartfelt loss.

Ted was a sometimes mentor and always friendly face in Biology when I joined the Dept and worked to get established. He was universally perceived as a nice guy, a valued colleague, and an outstanding teacher. I'll always remember him fondly.

I am so sorry to read of Dr. Wickersham's passing. He was a mentor and friend to me at Penn State, and even filled in as an impromptu-father-figure to my young sons when I'd bring them to work on snow days, and they'd begin to argue while playing on the computer in my office next to his. He was such a nice man and taught me so much when I began my career at the university 25 years ago. Please know that his legacy of excellence in physiology education continues and that he is fondly remembered in the Biology Department.

Steve - so sorry for your loss. I remember your Dad so well from my days at Penn State and having him for some classes. He made the classes interesting but difficult!! lol. One of the things he always did before a test was to tell us a joke and then to tell us some funny story about his family. Who knew years later we would work together.
