Obituary of Robert E. Wilson
Robert E. "Bob" Wilson, Sr., 82, of State College, died Friday, May 26, 2017, at home.
Born December 26, 1934, in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Edgar Henson and Burtice Mills Wilson. On June 10, 1961 he married Judy J. Foster who preceded him in death on May 12, 2008.
Bob is survived by three children, Kristin A. Mitchell and her husband, Charles, of Howard, Lori Renee Sheppard and her husband, Brian, of State College and Robert E Wilson Jr. of Johnstown; a brother, William Clair Wilson and his wife, Jeanne, of Columbia, MD; two grandchildren, Brian Sheppard II and Allison Sheppard, both of State College. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Louise Johnston.
He was a 1952 graduate of Philipsburg High School. He served as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army alongside of Elvis Presley.
Bob retired from Penn State University as the Director of Computer Programing after 35 years of service.
He was a member of the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church.
Bob enjoyed telling stories of how he served in the military with Elvis. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing potatoes especially. He was known for making apple cider every fall and then giving it away. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada. To his close family he was known as "Top".
Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Road, State College. Funeral service will follow at 11am, at the church with Patricia DeCapria, CLM officiating.
Private burial will be in Summit Hill Cemetery, Morrisdale, where Bob will be laid to rest next to his wife Judy.
