Obituary of Dorothy Jean Heasley

Dorothy Jean (Reagle) Heasley, 102, of Belleville, died on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Dorothy was born in Polk, PA to Waldo Walter Reagle and Edna Marie (Wallace) Reagle on June 23, 1915. In 1919, the family moved back to the home farm of her parents near Raymilton, PA. Dorothy graduated from Sandy Lake High School in May 1933. She was the last survivor of her graduating class of 48 (24 males and 24 females). At that time, her's was the largest class in the history of the high school. On December 27, 1932 she married a classmate Paul Leonard Heasley in Frederick, MD who predeceased her in 1986. They were married for 53 years. Dorothy moved to State College, PA in 1994.

Dorothy's family spanned five generations. She is survived by her only child, Daryl K. Heasley (Deborah Bray Preston) of Stratford, Ontario previously of State College, PA; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren: Cheryl (Merle) Neff; Paul (Janet) Heasley, both of State College, PA; Philip (Glenda) Heasley of Montgomery, PA; Scott (Patty) Heasley of Apollo, PA; Jonathan (Sharon) Preston of Fort Worth, TX; and Mark (Carrie) Preston of Richmond, VA; as well as six great grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. Her survivors also include her many nieces and nephews and great, and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by: her two brothers, Frederick Duane Reagle and Rollin Rexford Reagle; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; two great granddaughters; and a step great-grandson.

Dorothy was altruistic, family oriented, and spiritual to all those who knew her. She was a master homemaker and an incredible cook. Her greatest joy was her family. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and embroidery. Her most significant artistic achievements however were her quilts. In the last 25 years of her life she completed over two-dozen quilts all of which she gifted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These heirlooms will serve as a lasting reminder of her creativeness, inventiveness and devotion to family.

Visitation and interment will be at the convenience of the family.
