Obituary of Janet McQueen Black
Janet McQueen Black of State College, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at home.
Born in West Middlesex, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Austa Hofmeister McQueen. She was married to Alexander D. Black for sixty years.
In addition to her husband, Alex, she is survived by two children, Ellen M. Valentine of Orlando, FL and Jay D. Black and his wife, Shaila, and their two children, Aisha and Elma, of East Elmhurst, NY, and two siblings, Paul McQueen of Poland, OH and Marilyn Walker of Asheville, NC. Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Philip McQueen.
She graduated from West Middlesex High School, and received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati. Janet began her professional nursing career in the hospital systems of Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland, and later worked as a visiting nurse in New York City. After which Janet was a school nurse for State College Area School District.
She was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church.
Memorial service will be 10:30 am, Friday, June 2, 2017 at State College Presbyterian Church, 132 W. Beaver Ave, State College, with the Pastor Dean Lindsey officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Sue Sheridan Learning Enrichment Fund, to provide funds to help students participate in school activities. Contributions can be made to 154 West Nittany Ave, State College, PA 16801, in memory of Janet McQueen Black.
