Obituary of Robert Mark Barnoff
Robert Mark Barnoff, 90, of State College, PA died on May 26, 2017 at home.
He was born August 28, 1926 in Punxsutawney, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Morris) Barnoff. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Weiss, Mary Lou Filler, and Nancy Carlton.
Bob grew up in Punxsutawney, attending Punxsutawney High School until joining the Navy in 1944. While in the Navy he was stationed aboard the USS Trinity until 1946. After the Navy he attended Penn State University where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1951, followed by a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1955. He obtained a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon in 1966.
Dr. Robert Barnoff was professor at Penn State University where he served as Department Head of Civil Engineering from 1979 - 1985. In addition to his work at Penn State, Dr. Barnoff owned a consulting firm, R.M. Barnoff & Associates, taught at Bucknell University as a visiting professor, and consulted for the National Transportation Safety Board. Dr. Barnoff held the title of Professor Emeritus at Penn State University. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Norma Jean (Guglielmi) Barnoff, and four children, Joni Barnoff, Jan Barnoff, Mark Barnoff, and Joe Barnoff.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kyle Barnoff, Kendall Card, Joe Ritzman, Elise Warfield, Theresa Ritzman, Kory Barnoff, and Adam Warfield, and two great grandchildren, Tad Card and Layla Card.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, June 2 at 1:00 at Our Lady of Victory Church located at 820 Westerly Parkway State College, PA. Interment and a reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
