Barbara, I was so sorry to hear of Max's passing. I don't recall ever meeting him, but he must have been a wonderful husband and great father. I treasure many memories of you and Aunt Grace and Uncle Herb. I was usually intimidated by Uncle Herb who was so big and with a gruff booming voice while Aunt Grace was so sweet and so lovely.
My husband passed away in 2012 and I am living alone. My daughter, Joyce, lives next door and looks after her mother. I'm 85 now and finding aging is hard! My sister, Mary Lee, tells me you are not doing well. I know you are 6 years older than I and that it must be difficult for you at times. I do hope you can enjoy your children's visits. I hope this message has not been duplicated - I had trouble reading the letters in the image box and before I could get them accurately entered, my message had disappeared! Computers are getting harder to cope with!!
Love and Best Wishes,
Gloria

I served for several years with Max on the College Township Council. I always appreciated his insight on the Spring Creek Canyon while the route for Route I-99 was being discussed. He truly combined his love of the outdoors with his community service. He was an asset to us all.

I met Max, Barb, and their family through Ron Weaver, a relative of theirs and a friend and classmate of mine at Penn State in 1967. Max and Barb made me feel like one of their family. We started shooting and hunting together, and I began working for Max as a fledgling carpenter during the summers and free time.
I moved to Colorado after graduating in 1971, and we have kept in touch since then.
Max was an American Hero in his early days in the South Pacific conflict and a true Patriot all of his life.
I've spent most of my working career as a builder and credit Max with my start in that field. He told me many times that "customers will remember the quality of your work long after they've forgotten the cost". I still have and use the tools that he gave me many years ago.
Max is one of the finest people that I've had the privilege of knowing and he will be missed and fondly remembered by many.

Words can't describe the love and respect my family and I have always had for Max Hartswick. He meant the world to my father and I can still see him in some of my best childhood memories. There are few men in the world like him. He will be terribly missed.

We were so sorry to hear about your dad. He was a grand old fellow, and will be missed. He always made us smile when he would drop by on one of his walks in the field behind our houses, usually with one of the goats or his dog.

Max was an all-around great guy. I enjoyed serving with him in the Centre Region COG but even more enjoyed hearing his stories about growing up in College Heights. My condolences to his family.
