Obituary of Shelva J. Kauffman
Shelva J. Kauffman, 75, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Juniper Village at Brookline, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 11, 1941, in Dunbar, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Agnes Jellick Brooks. On November 6, 1961, she married Melvin "Pete" Kauffman.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Poorman and her husband, Robert "Buck", of Pennsylvania Furnace; two grandchildren, Ashley and Garrett Poorman of Pennsylvania Furnace; four siblings, Jim Brooks of Warriors Mark, Linda Morton and her husband, Jim, of Dillsburg, Jack Brooks and his wife, Sandy, of Warriors Mark., and Kathy Jabs and her husband, Bob, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter and two siblings, Janet Brannan and Ray Brooks.
Shelva was a 1959 graduate of State College Area High School. She worked at Kmart for many years until her retirement in 1992. She attended the Bible Baptist Church of Warriors Mark.
Shelva enjoyed nature, feeding the birds, and flower gardening. She also enjoyed piecing quilts during the winters. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will be sadly missed by many, including her lap dogs, Rambo and Buddy.
Visitation will be Friday, July 14, 2017 from 11:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St. State College, PA 16801.
The funeral service will follow the visitation on Friday at 1:00p.m.at the funeral home, with the Reverend Alan Kilian officiating.
Burial will be private in Meyer Cemetery.
