Praise the LORD for Carl Derk!
I met Carl in 1972 at a staff meeting when I became the first full time IVCF Campus Staff Member in Vermont. I always enjoyed talking to Carl about campus ministry and the Church. I renewed our friendship after leaving IVCF in 1974 to go to Westminster Theological Seminary. I was called by the PCA to do church planting in New England in 1977. When the RPC/ES merged with the PCA (1983?) I would see Carl at presbytery meetings. It was always a joyous renewal of fellowship.
Carl said something to me once when I was on IVCF Staff that I have never forgotten. He said about the students we disciple "If we do not get them actively involved in a church before they graduate, we have failed them." I have often thought of his words and how true they are. The church is vital to the life of all who have true faith.
Thank God for Carl. May all who know and loved Carl find rest for their souls through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dear Nancy,
We're sorry for your loss of Carl. You may not remember us, but we were members of Christ Church in Oreland back in the day. May you be comforted by the God of all comfort and by the sure HOPE of seeing him again at the Resurrection.
In Christ,
Joan and Wayne Brauning

To Nancy, Liz, and Jen,
You know better than anyone else how very special your husband/father was. My heart breaks for the hole that this leaves in your lives, but I hope you are comforted by knowing that you'll see him again.
Like many others feel, Carl was so important to me when I was young in my faith. I treasured the times that he visited Bucknell's Intervarsity group, and appreciated the encouragement and clarity he brought to every situation. As a nearby neighbor, I also felt very blessed to be able to see him and you all over the summers. Then I moved to Philadelphia for grad school, and you ended up in Willow Grove! Carl did Mike's and my pre-marital counseling, and married us back in State College, 33 years ago this coming Friday.
We both appreciate your place in our lives, and we do look forward to being reunited one day. Love to you all.

I was so sad to just hear of Carl's passing! He was very instrumental in my growth as a young believer in my junior and senior years at Penn State. He encouraged me to go to Urbana Missions Conference and showed confidence in me, suggesting that I attend as a leader. He made a great difference in my commitment to my relatively new found faith! Carl took chances on his students and always had a ready smile and encouraging word!
Thank you so much, Carl! I intend to hunt you down in heaven to thank you personally! Prayers of comfort are being lifted for your dear family!

Carl was faithful and kind. He respected others and most of all he was a lover of Jesus. He is now seeing his Savior face to face.

Joan and I grieve with you in the passing of Carl into the arms of our Lord and Savior. We remember the comfort that he gave to us in the loss of one of our twin sons while we were at Willow Grove Presbyterian Church. He was gracious, gentle and compassionate.

I knew Carl through the CCO... & he was always a kind & wise presence at our staff events. I'm thankful for the ways in which he shined the love of Christ into me and the other CCO staffers who had the opportunity to serve college students alongside of him. Prayers for peace and hope to your family.
Kindly,
Shelby
