Obituary of Alvin Anderson
Alvin Anderson, father of Kris Eng, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Elmcroft Senior Living Facility in State College, Pennsylvania at the age of 92. Alvin had been a lifetime resident of Iowa before moving to State College to be closer to his daughter and her family, David, Grant, Anders and Molly Eng. Last November Alvin lost his wife, Gloria, after 66 years of marriage.
As a farmer, Alvin lived his faith knowing that God would always provide for his family through times of drought, floods and perfect growing seasons. Being a Norwegian and a life-long Lutheran, he was a humble servant who always put others ahead of himself in all that he did.
Alvin was also part of the greatest generation and served his country in the US Army during World War II as part of the occupation forces in Japan. In June 2010, he was part of the second Iowa Honor Flight to visit the World War II memorial in DC. It was the first time anyone had thanked him for his service to his country. It was his honor to serve our country, his community, his neighbors, his family and his God.
Friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service for Alvin on Monday, September 11th at 11:30 am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church which meets at the Albright Bethune United Methodist Church 206 South Burrowes Street, State College. A luncheon will immediately follow the service there at the church. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church for the purchase of Bibles for all baptized children at the church.
Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College. Online condolences and signing of the guest book may be entered at www.kochfuneralhome.com or visit us on facebook.
