Obituary of Miriam C. Bengtson
Miriam C. Bengtson, 91, of State College, died Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center.
Born June 10, 1926, in Lima, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Harold Olan and Oneta Weaver Clark. On June 8, 1952 in Lima, Ohio, Miriam married Glenn D. Bengtson, who preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by three children, Eric Clark Bengtson of State College, Carolyn R. Hutchison and husband, Jon, of Elgin, IL, and Edwin Glenn Bengtson and wife, Janice, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Mark Bengtson of Brooklyn, New York, Megan Bengtson of Fayettevill, AR, and Celeste Frehner of Kansas City, Kansas; and one sister, Marilyn Brown, of Des Moise, WA. In addition to her husband and parents, Miriam was preceded in death by Carol Fullmer.
Miriam received her bachelor's degree from Oberlin Conservatory in 1948. Miriam was a bassoonist, playing in university and local music groups, and a music teacher for the State College Area School District until her retirement in 1998.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she was active in the choirs. She was a member of sweet Adeline's Barbershop singing. Miriam enjoyed living in India and Africa.
A visitation will be held from 2-3pm on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 250 E. College Ave, State College. Funeral service will follow at 3:00pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 250 E College Ave, State College, PA with Pastor Becky McGee and Jon Hutchison officiating.
Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to St. Pauls United Methodist Church 250 E. College Ave, State College, PA 16801 in memory of Miriam C. Bengtson.
