Obituary of John Edward Binney

John ("Jack") Edward Binney passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2017. Born November 2nd, 1929 in Indiana, Pa. to Lemuel and Helen (McGregor) Binney, John is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Jane (Hodgson) Binney and they just celebrated their 67th year of marriage in January. He is also survived by his brother Jim Binney and predeceased by sister Joan Divins; also survived by children Jeff (wife Vicki) of Pinehurst, N.C., Jean of Naperville, Il. , Jerry (wife Lili) of Dumont, N.J., and Jamie (wife Carol) of State College, Pa.; Grandchildren Kristin (husband Matthew), Sarah (husband Mike), Ben (wife Sarah), Alix, and Dina; Great grandchildren Jack and Ella. Jack graduated from Rossiter High School in 1947 and then attended undergraduate school at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and then earned a Masters degree and did Doctoral work (ABD) at Penn State University in Educational Administration. Jack was a teacher in Osceola Mills, Pa., Beaty Junior High School in Warren, Pa., and then was Vice Principal of Eisenhower High School in Russell, Pa.. He also coached football and basketball at Eisenhower High School. He then was the principal at Huntingdon Junior High School and served first as Assistant Superintendent of Schools and then Superintendent of Schools for Huntingdon County from 1968-1974. He was then the Superintendent of Warren County Schools from 1975-1988. Jack was on the advisory board for the Salvation Army in Warren, Pa. and was a 50-year member of the Stillwater Masonic lodge # 547. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Huntingdon Country Club, the Blueberry Golf Club in Scandia, Pa. and then played in the "Burning Tee" golf club at the Penn State golf courses. He was a fan of Penn State sports, The Pirates, The Steelers, as well as the Huntingdon Bearcats, Warren Dragons, Eisenhower Knights, and the State College Little Lions. But most of all, however, Jack loved to be with his wife and family. In lieu of sending flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to St. Paul's Methodist Church in State College, Pa. or the Salvation Army. A private memorial ceremony will be held by the family in State College. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
