Obituary of Frank Bernhardt Scheirer
Frank Bernhardt "Sonny" Scheirer, Jr., 85, of State College, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center.
Born March 11, 1932, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Isabelle Jane Huegel Scheirer, Sr. On February 25, 1956 he married Esther R. Day at the Zion Lutheran Church, in Boalsburg, who preceded him in death on April 11, 2014.
He is survived by one son, Gregory Scheirer and his wife, Vicki, of Pine Grove Mills; one sister, Louise Wasson, also of Pine Grove Mills and a granddaughter, Michelle Grove of Rote.
Frank was a 1950 graduate of Allen High School, Allentown. After graduation he served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955, serving on the Heavy Cruiser USS Newport News as a Petty Officer 3rd Class Storekeeper.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, he was employed for Titan Metals from 1956 until 1961. Frank then became a Purchasing Agent for Getting's Engineering and Pharmaceuticals for over 30 years.
In his younger years he played on the Bellefonte Softball League and coached the Little League Baseball Team of Millheim. After retirement he was a member of the Senior Bowling League in Bellefonte.
Frank was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, State College. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 245, State College, the Old Fort Masonic Lodge 537 where he served as a Worshipful Master, a 32nd Degree Past Master of the Williamsport Scottish Rite, A. A. S. R. and he also served on the Board for the Aaronsburg Public Library in the 1970's where he designed the book and lantern logo.
Frank was an avid sports fan. He loved his Nittany Lions, Steelers, Navy, Pirates and Duke and Boston Celtics Basketball.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Masonic service will begin at 11:45 a.m. Funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 12 p.m., with the Reverend Bryan Spang officiating.
Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 851 Science Park Rd., State College, PA 16803.
