Obituary of Henry Hoffman

Henry "Hank" Hoffman, 89, of State College, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born August 12, 1928, in Camden, N.J., he was the son of the late Sol and Ada Ruttenberg Hoffman. On April 15, 1951, in Camden, N.J., he married Janice S. Copeland. In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Janice, Hank is survived by two children, Edwin Hoffman and his wife, Jennifer, of Milton, FL, and Bennett Hoffman of Julian; four grandchildren, Shaun Hoffman and his wife, Kisha, of Pace, FL, Rebecca Schenck and her husband, Jason, of Milton, FL, Devon Hoffman and his wife, Captain Chelsea Truax Hoffman, of El Paso, TX, and Adam Hoffman of Avon, CO; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Hoffman of Pace, FL; one sister, Vivian Gold of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Maurice Hoffman; sister-in-law, Leanore Hoffman; brother-in-law, David Gold, and brother-in-law, Stewart Copeland. Hank graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden, N.J. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps/Air Force and served during the Korean War. Hank was a radar specialist for the Berlin Airlift. After his honorable discharge, Hank attended and graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and engineering. While there he received an award in mathematics. Hank and his wife, Janice, owned and operated their own business, Coil Specialty Company, starting in New Jersey in 1957, and later moving to State College in 1968. Under new ownership, Coil Specialty Company is celebrating its 60th year in business. Hank was a member of Congregation Brit Shalom and served as president during their expansion. He was a Mason. He was also a member of the F & AM Lodge 700 in State College, Quarterback Club, the NRA, Power Squadron, and bowling leagues in both New Jersey and State College. He served as president for the Patton Township Civic Association. Hank enjoyed hunting and boating. He was an avid Penn State Football fan and was a season ticket holder for 45 years.
