Obituary of Elizabeth Frances Polo

Elizabeth F. Polo, 80, of State College, died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Hearthside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, State College. Born on March 17, 1937 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Walter Michael Mercer and Elizabeth Margaret (nee Hughes) Mercer. On November 24, 1962, she married Santiago R. Polo in Princeton, N.J. Her beloved Santi preceded her in death on June 20, 2005. She attended Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who greatly enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, developing special bonds with each beloved child. She was a member for 52 years at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, State College, where she enjoyed attending Mass and sharing time with her OLV friends. She is survived by her four children, Michael S. Polo, of Santa Clara, Calif.; Elizabeth M. Flynn and her husband, Thomas, of Etters; John L. Polo and his wife, Marcella, of State College; and James M. Polo, of State College; and her 10 grandchildren, E. Marlyn Flynn, Brendan C. Flynn, Angela Polo, Nathan V. Polo, Noah C. Polo, Esabella F. Polo, Gabriella E. Polo, Arianna G. Polo, Esmeralda J. Polo, and Elena M. Polo; and her sister, Jeanne Manfra and her husband, Richard, of Upper Darby. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Patricia A. Johnson, and her husband, Harry M. Johnson Jr., of Richmond, Va., and by her half-sister, Margie Mercer Brunner, of Levittown. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, November 15 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 16 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College. Interment will follow at Pine Hall Cemetery, State College. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elizabeth's name to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA 16801.
