I just learned of Kirk's passing.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I taught and coached at Corning East HS, and Kirk was a key member of the very first boys soccer team there. Kirk served as one of our team captains. I remember him as a great athlete but mostly as a fantastic leader. And team leadership was something we desperately needed that year as we were a team consisting of players from both East and West high school. We may not have had a good win/loss record in '82, but we had a great time together, and the unity and cameraderie we established, with players like Kirk setting the tone, brought us the league title only 3 years later.
I found an old newspaper picture from 1982 and am attaching that separately.

Dear Dawn
We are so sad to hear about Kirk's passing. I remember him fondly and can only imagine the great sense of loss and how it is tangled with an incredible sense of appreciation for having such a great guy in your lives. The picture of you, Kirk and your children radiates joy. With time, this joy and the many memories of a terrific father and husband will help you through your grief. Please know that you have many friends in California. If your kids are ever out for a college visit or you just head west for a vacation, you have places to stay and people who want to share everything life has to offer from grief to joy and everything in between.
Warmly,
Jeff Nolan

I would like to express my deepest sympathy for the loss you have suffered! Please know that God is a God of all comfort and he will be there for you during this time! (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) Psalms 34:18 tells us that God is close to the broken-hearted and he saves those crushed in spirit. Yes, God truly cares for you! Go to him in prayer and he will provide you with "the peace of God that surpasses all understanding " - Philippians 4:6,7. Jesus said "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life." -John 11:25. Yes, God truly cares about us and Jesus tells us we will see our loved ones again! I hope this brings you a measure of comfort as you endure this most difficult time.

Dawn and Family - no words can describe how sorry I am for your loss. Kirk and I first became friends through Patti and Ric on my inaugural surf trip to Southern California. I owe a big thanks to both of you for opening your home to me on many a weekend over several years, creating great memories of friendship, laughter and surfing.
I pray for your family's strength and healing through this difficult time.
Love,
Dave, Denise, Reese and Taylor DeMarco

"Your dead will live. My corpses will rise up. Awake and shout joyfully, You residents in the dust! For your dew is as the dew of the morning. And the earth will let those powerless in death come to life." (Isaiah 26:19) This prophecy tells us that one day we will see our dead loved ones again in a new world! Please seek Jehovah God to see his promises fulfilled...

Kirk is an inspiration to me and always will be. His passion for doing the right thing and living life vigorously regardless of his personal struggles will always be meaningful to me. When he first received his diagnosis he completely changed his diet and began riding his bike probably 20 miles to work. This helped me see my lifestyle in a new way and helped inspire me to change my lifestyle as a result. Great, great man and friend who will be missed.

To the Ebbs Family,
We are sadden by the loss of your loving husband and father. Kirk was a wonderful person. He always had a good word and a smile for everyone. He was by far the best boss I have ever had. I looked forward to seeing him every morning when I worked day shift. Not only was he a great leader but he cared about all of us at Milesburg. The first time I meet him he already knew my name and asked me if I was related to Matt Burns who is my nephew. I am proud to be associated with a man like Kirk. He set the bar high for himself and challenged us to do the same. He will be missed at Milesburg and by all that he came in contact with. Rest in peace Kirk.
