My favorite memories from high school involve singing in Mr. Langdon’s choirs. He was such a talented musician and brought out truly beautiful music from a bunch of teenagers. He was also a lovely man who cared about his students and made choir rehearsals and music theory fun. When I think of Mr. Langdon, I remember his sense of humor and tongue-in-cheek phrases like “fifty lashes with a wet noodle,” and “I won’t name any names, but his initials are Tib Bunnell” (or whoever was drawing his attention at the moment!) I feel blessed to have been one of his students.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy for the loss you have suffered! Please know that God is a God of all comfort and he will be there for you during this time! (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) Psalms 34:18 tells us that God is close to the broken-hearted and he saves those crushed in spirit. Yes, God truly cares for you! Go to him in prayer and he will provide you with "the peace of God that surpasses all understanding " - Philippians 4:6,7. Jesus said "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life." -John 11:25. Yes, God truly cares about us and Jesus tells us we will see our loved ones again! I hope this brings you a measure of comfort as you endure this most difficult time.

Sorry to hear about Jim, he was a favorite of mine. I played my banjo and accordion with him at times. My Dad had a marching banjo band Im Bellefonte so music is one of my passions. I even
sang a few songs with him at Autoport. He was a great leader in our music department and will be missed as a friend. My wife and I are in Myrtle Beach so I did not attend his services.

Although it has been many years since I sang in the State College high school A cappella choir, I remember vividly the encouragement , professionalism and excellence of Jim Langton. It was a pleasure to sing in his choir, to get guidance and to know that someone else was in my court. A special man!

What a beautiful write up for a beautiful man. His life was so full. Look at his beautiful family and all of the lives he touched. My memories of him leading A Cappella at State High are so wonderful. I also enjoyed evenings at the Autoport feeding him requests. He must have known a million songs! My prayers and condolences to the whole Langton family. There is no doubt that a wonderful musician has just entered heaven and is in such peace.

Jim and I shared the same office from the day I started teaching at State College Area High School (February 24, 1975) until Jim’s retirement in 1987. As a first year teacher I could not have been placed in a better situation! After listening to my interaction with a student or parent he would often come over to me and say, “Rich, you can do what you want, but if I were you I would . . .” and then give me the best possible advice on how to proceed. I doubt if I would have survived my first few years without his guidance, mentorship, and friendship. He will always be fondly remembered.

Jim was incredibly talented and a gifted teacher. More than that, he was a true gentleman and an outstanding friend to so many. It was inspiring to come to SCASD as a music teacher and have him to look up to, ...And to follow in his footsteps has been a privilege. Blessings to his wife. She must be so proud to have been married to such a fine man. I won’t forget him or his playing!

I always credit your Dad, when I get into a discussion regarding the costs of participation in athletics (or any other interest of kids). . . We were in a discussion about the high cost of soccer shoes and he said, “ Well it beats the cost of bail money!” Sending this memory along with our sympathy and best wishes!!

To the family and friends of Mr. Langton, my favorite choral teacher, I want to share a memory. One day, he was more than a little frustrated that we neglected our music theory lessons while complaining about our workload from other classes. He gave us some sage advice saying,"Don't let your academics get in the way of your education". Clearly, music should come first!
With heartfelt condolences,
Roger Crider

Mr. Langton was always one of my favorite teachers. And one of my favorite people. He certainly helped further my love of music. I remember auditioning for Choraliers, and in my enthusiasm, I moved to the wrong place in the audition room. He threatened me with lashes with a wet noodle!
I took Music Theory with him and loved learning. ... Even if I found out I was no composer, I learned a lot. And wish, to this day, that I knew that special chord he used to play.
Mr. Langton also played at my wedding reception. I didn't want a band or DJ. Mr. Langton was just what I wanted. I loved listening to him tickle the ivories. Even went to see him at the Autoport once when I was back in town.
I haven't seen him in years, but I will truly miss him. I was blessed to have known him, and he will always be in my heart. Many prayers to his family. Much Love.

Dear Loretta and Family,
I'm so sorry to hear of Jim's passing, and pray that he is now being led by the angels and saints to the Heavenly Banquet hall where he can enjoy beautiful music such as he provided for decades! I loved listening to him play the piano and tell stories of his long career. I deeply appreciate the way he supported and encouraged my work as a professional musician. Love and blessings to you and your family.
